An evening at the Isakaya

An Isakaya is kind of a tapas bar a la japonaise
Meaning, you have a table or a room in our case and you order a lot of small dishes to share
This was our room, very cosy
This was a tofu salad with avocado
Mentaiko (speciality from Fukuoka, spicy fish eggs)  with tofu
Fried chicken tendon, I had to try that :-)
And after a great evening there we finished with some Thai dessert in another place.
Just delicious, banana cakes, milk cakes,... and all this with coconut milk
Wouah, luckily I go back by bike otherwise ....

Lantern festival

Yesterday there was a lantern festival in Fukuoka.
So in the street they put some colorful paper bags with some candles inside
This is not one of it, but kind of fit to the theme!
Sometimes some people have done some decoration in their garage too.
In this one they paint many bambous and put the candle inside
But the main places where you could see some great lights were the shrines
They have done huge decorations, like here some flowers
Or the name of the shrine I think
Some sidewalk.
I really like this one
And in another shrine the children have done their own lanterns
This is not part of the festival but this is just incredible one, look at all the details and caraters!
Here there was really a lot of lanterns, not sure what the pattern was tough...
beautiful right?
After that our group went to have some ramen
hum delicious and this is one of the speciality of Fukuoka
but since it was not enough a cake and a chocolate cream were there to finish the evening!

Day trip in Yanagawa

Today is an holiday in Japan, so yesterday the school organized a day trip in Yanagawa, 50 minutes by train from Fukuoka.
First we started with a boat trip on the river with a great lunch!
So many onigiri!
This was our driver :-)
He was also singing!
a statue along the river
And this boat had some other students
These trees, Yanagi in Japanese are giving their name to this river
On the way there are some shops where you can buy some food, but we had enough!
And this is us on the way!
After that we went to a matsuri, a Japanese carnival.
Here it is me with a Geisha!

And these are the cars that the people are carrying around
On this one you had a god or daemon not so sure
But they are protecting the people
Here some other one
And since this is a shinto festival small kids are wearing shinto priest outfit
I really like these two.
They look mysterious!
Here some small temple
And this is the first time I see this kind. Inside you have some puppets, very strange...
Here you have the people pulling/carrying the car
And this is me doing the same for about 2 kilometers
But since we are a lot doing it this is really ok!
It was great fun to do it for the first time!
At the arrival the people on the char were doing some theater, I think this is kabuki, but not sure...
These are gods
And this one is really nice

And some of the cars have music, this is typical from the matsuri, I let you enjoy!

That day is also a very good day for weddings
So we had the chance to see two of them.
So romantic!!!!
After that I met some of my friend to eat some nabe.
This one is the famous one from Fukuoka, this is with tripes
I really love it and since it was a bit cold in the evening this is very good!
A typhoon was coming, today it is raining a lot!!!!
And to finish the day perfectly a hand made pudding!
